Meet Our Inner West Tutors

Servicing Five Dock & Sydney’s Inner West

How they teach…

what they will cover

CURRICULUM

At Brainfood education we ensure that all our tutors are familiar with the objectives and outcomes for each course they teach, adhering to the standards set by the NSW Board of Education and infusing our lessons with activities designed to review and challenge these core standards. Many times, students come to us after simply missing a few days of school and consequently missing a whole topic or skill set.  With such a robust curriculum set for our schools there is often no time to go back and review those missing skills and that’s where tutoring can really make a difference for your child.

HOMEWORK

Our approach to homework is simple. Students already receive plenty of homework from school, therefore unless specifically requested we set revision activities only for home.  Teaching our students quality techniques for organising and revising key formulas, structures and skills will significantly assist with retaining information and translating that knowledge to assessment tasks and exams.

EXAM & ASSIGNMENT PREP

Within tutoring classes we offer assistance with assignments, regular topic testing and exam prep activities to really desensitise the process and allow students to feel comfortable when walking in to an exam.  Many students who seek tutoring have had a poor experience in exams, freezing up and forgetting key information. Our end goal is to build confidence in our students, taking the fear away from the “one bad result means I’m a bad student” mentality and allowing students to prove to themselves that they have the intelligence and ability to succeed in school and life.

Tutoring Methods

  • Deliver structured and tailored tutorials focussed on individual learning, either via small group or private lessons
  • Refine study skills and memorisation techniques
  • Ensure foundations are set by bridging the gaps in schoolwork
  • Focus on resilience, responsibility and being proactive to achieve academic results
  • Opt to work with a tutor of choice and develop a mentor relationship

Why he Tutors? (in his own words)

I tutor because my whole life I have been good at math. When I was younger, I took this for granted but only realised later when I matured that not everyone finds it as easy. Thus, when I tutor, and I help somebody who is struggling with a concept, no matter how big or small, I get a great sense of wellbeing and satisfaction when a student masters what they previously thought was beyond them.

Interesting Facts

To find a tutor that connects with students of all ages and all levels is quite amazing, but here he is. His students love him, they put their faith in him, and in return he achieves results with them. A genuinely great person who wants nothing more than the absolute best for his students.

Yes Latin is a very niche subject and demand is limited, but when Codey is tutoring we actually keep the door open to his class as it’s simply amazing to listen to.

Why he loves Tutoring

I have admired several teachers throughout my schooling career. Even after i had left their classes, I still felt drawn to them for their advice and guidance over the years. Its that sense of warmth and acceptance they’ve provided me that has continued to inspire my teaching and tutoring. I want to be that person others can lean on as they navigate the oftentimes tough waters of growing up. It is particularly why since as early as year 9 I have aimed conduct some form of tutoring of students. Initially, I utilised my experience in state debating to conduct a debating class for my local community. Having the pleasure to introduce young minds to such an enjoyable and skillful activity is an experience i will always cherish. Observing my students improve their speaking, communication and critical thinking skills was quite a rewarding and impressionable experience in my life.

What our Tutors will cover

At Brainfood Education we are committed to a flexible learning approach. Through our own personal experiences and feedback from many students, we recognise that not every student learns the same way which can often lead to issues keeping up in regular school classes. We encourage all of our tutors to roll 4 key principles into every class to help our students maximise their learning experience and theirs results.

Cement the basics

Ensuring our students are comfortable with the basics of each subject is a first priority. Students are encouraged to regularly revise and use these basic skills through exercises in class and at home.

Organise & Prepare

We can help students build study plans, help organise exam notes, work through practice exams and many other activities to help get organised and prepared to excel at school. Our tutors are uniquely positioned to provide this advice as they use these methods to achieve excellence with their own results.

Build Confidence

The best thing we can do for our students is build their confidence that they can achieve the results they want. Initial we set short term goals for an exam or assessment and work with students to improve results, demonstrating that good results are attainable with the right motivation. As the tutor student relationship develops, confidence and motivation will continue to build.

Have Fun

Overall, our goal at Brainfood Education is to encourage our students to love learning. Finishing high school is merely a stepping stone in a lifetime journey of education. If we can help our students love the process as well as the results by using our tips, tricks and organisation, we consider our job well done.
